 Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

Certified and licensed accountants as well as other licensed tax practitioners are required to keep their accounting and tax knowledge updated to keep abreast of changing laws and regulations.  Certifying agencies mandate that practitioners take courses each year to earn Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.  The number of annual required credits generally ranges between 24 and 32.

In January 2010, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued proposed new requirements for tax return preparers.  Presently, tax preparers are not required to be licensed nor do they have to earn any CPE credits in most states.  Essentially, in these states (including Colorado), anyone can prepare income tax returns and collect preparation fee.  Under the proposed IRS requirements,  starting with the 2011 tax season, all tax preparers will need to get licensed and will be subject to the same CPE requirements as the currently licensed practitioners.

Public Accountants Society of Colorado is your home for earning CPE credits.  We offer various seminars on tax laws as they affect Individuals, Corporations, Partnerships, etc.  Additionally, we offer seminars on topics such as Aging in America, IRS Representations, etc.  Our seminars not only educate you, but they also entertain you!  Our highly knowledgeable speakers sprinkle their presentations with relevant anecdotes, which coupled with their folksy style, make learning easy to ingest!  One of the most admired features of our seminars is the course material:  The course book you get is comprehensive and makes a great reference source when you need answers to questions at a later date.

Please visit our course offerings on this website.  Should you have any questions, please or call us at 303-452-8227.

State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
